Mel’s Monday: So, for the longest time I have had my eyes on a pair of Mia Glitter Wedges that can be found here. The fashionably frugal gal that I am, said “Go get the glitter glue and make it happen.” Which is exactly what I did! My Society Chic-ers, I bring you yet another DIY – Glitter Wedge edition. After a few fatal attempts of trying with Tulip Glitter glue, I realized I was getting no where. Until, I came across a fab idea from FabSugar, who opted on using ModPodge to adhere the glitter. So.. Another step by step version, just for you! I’ve added a video at the end for extra omph. Let me know what you think!
What you’ll need:ModPodge Gloss, ModPodge Acrylic Sealer, Sponge Brushes, Glitter (pick your fave), Heels (Please beware that this is a permanent effect. Don’t head for the Jimmy Choos before you are fully ready to take on the challenge. The wedges pictured are G by Guess. I’m brave, I know.)
Start by laying out newspaper or whatever works for you so that you’re able to make a mess (by God’s good grace, I needed only two napkins!).
Next, add equal parts (at first) ModPodge and Glitter.
I say ‘at first’ because you’ll want to keep adding a little more glitter after you mix them together. You’ll want a thick consistency, just not clumpy.
Then, let the painting begin! Take small portions and ‘tap’ your way around the shoe.
Try to stay consistent all the way around, you don’t want spots without glitter!
Next, you’ll want to open the glitter to the three-slot side and lightly tap the glitter over the ModPodge, especially in places you find glitter missing.
So far, so good! Finish the other shoes and set aside for the spray.
I recommend taking the shoes outside, I hadn’t realized how potent the spray was until I finished. Take a paper towel and fold it inside the shoe, this way, the spray does not get on the inside seams. Then, lightly mist over the entire shoe. Work in sections to get a better hold on the glitter.
You’re almost there! This is what the shoe will look like when it is not dried yet.
And here, Ladies & Gents, is the finished product! I hope you enjoyed this one as much as I did! I’m looking forward to more fashionably frugal attempts at saving a buck or two. Please send me your pictures with hashtag #SocietyChic
