TOTW: Must-Have Instagram Apps

Hey, lovelies! Happy Monday! It’s almost bed time for this girl right here. I’ve been getting a lot of messages from you creative genius’ out there asking how on EARTH I add so many cool filters, typography and handwriting to my Instagram photos (if you’re not following me on Instagram, what are you waiting for?!). I wanted to share some of my favorite pre-Instagram apps that really get my creative juices flowin’.. I’m sure there are a thousand apps out there to use that get you more followers, help with hashtags and that sort – but we’re keeping it strictly creative here. Krop Circle

Krop Circle is an app that allows you to import a photo that gets “cropped” into different shapes. You’ll see that this gorgeous, amazing, ever-so-sparkly ring is cropped into a heart. With just the free version you only have access to a circle, but with a small purchase you get shapes like skulls, numbers, triangles, birds, etc.

A+ Signature

A+ Signature is pretty self explanatory. it allows you to put your “signature” on any image. I opted for the A+ version because it allows you to add more than one signature. You’re free to use your own handwriting instead of using funky type. My handwriting isn’t the best, but it definitely gives my images a personal touch! You’re also able to add type to your images in a SLEW of different fonts.

VSCO Cam

VSCO Cam is a pretty over-all-amazing app that is made for iPhoneagraphers and people who really just love them some good photography. It’s simple interface allows you to use preset packs (colors, faded to black and white, etc), adjust exposure and focus, lighting, you name it! It’s got all the bells and whistles that a DSLR could give you that an iPhone never will. You’ll just have to see this one to believe it!

Picfx

Picfx I’m sure is nothing new, but I still wanted to bring it up as one of my favorites. Instagram does a great job of keeping their filters fine-tuned, but with Picfx your possibilities are really endless. With options to add filters on top of filters, it can become quit crazy, but a good 2-3 is ideal depending on the look you’re trying to achieve. There are a few folders that contain Bokeh and textures, too!

Over

One of my recent favorites and probably the one I get asked most about is Over. Over is an app that allows you to place different kinds of type and art on images to create really amazing photo/typography mashes. As someone who looks at type all day long and get thrills out of kerning some good type, it was nice to see a typographic app come along that really gives A+ a run for it’s money. I frequently use both, but Over holds a soft spot in my heart for sure. You can adjust charters, fonts, colors, alignment, the list goes on. It’s really the go-to app for creative people on the go!

A few others that aren’t listed in detail but are loved just as much:
Diptic – when Instagram’s standard square just isn’t going to cut it
Camera+ – Another pretty good “don’t-feel-like-using-the-iphone-camera” camera
LetterFx – Another crop type app, only using letters! (imagine squishing your face inside the word “LOVE” or “SWAG” – you catch my drift.

*Sidenote: I know that these are mainly iPhone apps and I regret to inform you that I don’t know a TON of apps for android – but feel free to list the ones that you like if you’re in the Android family!

Birchbox Baby

Hey SocietyChicsters! Good gracious it has been some time! Life has really thrown us all for a loop lately. I tend to forgot how important posting means to me until it’s completely erased from my life and my inner blogger is just screaming to get out! I’m so sorry that we’ve been keeping you in the dark for so long. Thanks for sticking with us, guys! To start off the year (mid year, geez! I know.. I get it.) I wanted to share something I’ve been keeping secret for a little… BIRCHBOX!

For those of you that don’t know, Birchbox is a magical subscription that comes to your house every month (in a box *gasp*) filled with goodies! The newest and best products on the market, all based on your skincare regimens, skintype, age, etc. I swear I could be a spokesperson for this with how many people I’ve convinced to sign up for it. I think the anticipation of having to essentially wait “in line” to get your subscription alone tells you just how popular this is. Lo and behold, my 9 month anniversary came up and I decided I wanted -needed to do a post of all the products I’ve come across that made me think, “Where has this been all my life?!” Leave your comments below if you also love any of these products or if you have something from your Birchbox that isn’t listed! Hi, Dolls! I hope you all enjoyed your Memorial Day weekend and a sincere thank you to all of those who fight for our country and for our freedom! Aside from trying to catch up on some beauty sleep, I couldn’t resist my favorite Memorial Day sales. I’m really digging these high-low collared chiffon blouses. They’re comfortable, professional and can transformed easily from day-to-night. I’m finding a lot of them in TJ Maxx and Forever 21. Here is a Piece-by-piece breakdown:

1st Annual GQ Party: Recapped

Hey, loves! So if you didn’t have a chance to make it out to Dynasty Events’ 1st annual GQ party, you missed out! It was a blast! I’ve attached some pictures of the night, along with a few key things we found that worked best for club attire. Some things we saw that we really like:

  • Color blocking, Neutral colors and pops of color
  • LBD’s  with statement heels
  • Suspenders and Fedoras
  • Blazers and chain drop earrings
  • Knowing how to dress up jeans
  • Ties, bowties and more ties!

New Kid On The Block

Hey, kids! Are you still awake? I know I’m aching for a good nap! I finally get to fill you in. I’ve recently started a new position at a successful and all-around-amazing Marketing company (those ARE the details, you little creepers) and I’m so thrilled to excel in my career and to take the next step! With all great opportunity, comes a new outfit! Well.. for me at least. My mother always taught me to dress for success and it’s exactly what I do! Like any other girl, my feet are killing me by the end of the day, it’s too hot to wear a blazer all day long (it’s Florida, people.. stay with me), but that never stops me from dressing for the position that I want. Isn’t confidence and determination a girl’s best accessory? I think so! You have to remember that people are going to feed off of your good energy and attitude. If you think all day long “I hate my job”, don’t you think people will sense that in your everyday persona? Besides, who needs shoulder pads when you have the stance of a lion?

I guess you can say I know a thing or two about dressing professionally. I somehow came out of the womb in heels and holding a briefcase. I get that from my mother, for sure! But when you’ve work at a few “corporate-y”  places.. you’ve seen just about everything and anything. While this is just too much to touch small base on, I will be sure to include some things of what to/not do in a later post. And by later I mean when I have the brain capacity to really jog my memory of all the awful things I’ve encountered over the years!

An outfit I put together for my first day is attached. You’ll notice that It’s still very conservative -yet playful. I’ll be sure to keep re-caping my outfits for you. This is huge for me.. as I’m sure you can understand. You’re more than welcome to ask questions about interview outfits and I’d be happy to share my 25 cents! I’m slightly behind on time – which is why you haven’t seen any actual piece-by-pieces from me. I wish I could post more, but there are just NOT enough hours in the day. More soon! I hope I get to see you all at DynastyEvents‘ First Annual GQ Party, where Society Chic will be the official judges! Love you, babes!

TOTW: Mind Your G’s and Q’s

Inspired by the GQ party, and with GQ in general, we decided to compile a few looks for the night out. Along with our looks, we’ve written a few commandments that men MUST live by when dressing for the nightlife. To avoid a Debbie Downer and to reap the benefits for guaranteeing yourself in the club (as opposed to being sent home for dress code), we advise you to stick with our guidelines and they’ll never steer you wrong!

Ten Commandments of Nightlife Attire:

  1. Dress-up: You can never be overdressed, and if you feel out of place, at least you’re the best dressed.
  2. Denim: keep your denim choices limited to a dark wash and fitted/straight leg style. Colored pants are fine, depending on your outfit, so choose wisely. 
  3. Minimize: having bulky pockets are a no-no. Keep only the essentials. Credit card, ID, spare cash in a small wallet.
  4. Soles: Don’t wear sneakers to a club. There’s a difference between fashion shoes and a beat-up pair of Air Force 1′s that you refuse to throw away. Also… wear flip-flops to a club and we’ll disown you. 
  5. Smell: Don’t wear too much cologne. No one wants to be intoxicated by your fumes.
  6. Ties: Do experiment with ties. They aren’t only for holidays. Ties can be used as your most bold accessory. Try out a color you’ve never tried before (lavender, magenta, mustard) or a pattern that you didn’t think would be “you” (paisley, geometric prints, plaid).
  7. Quality: Invest in a pair of quality shoes. Find a pair that suits you best, and have those as your “go to” shoe when you have no idea what to wear. 
  8. Keep it at the Shore: Bedazzled shirts and neon dragons (covering your tees) are out. Keep your shirts simple and ALWAYS ironed/steamed. Your look will always look more put-together with a crisp shirt.
  9. Bling: Don’t wear gaudy jewelry ie: big chains, overly chunky watches, golds in your mouth (unless you’re Flava Flav). Fist pumping just can’t be done if there’s a possibility of you injuring someone.
  10. Stay True: Have fun with your style. Look to the pages of GQ and find looks that you’d like to try out. Have a style that defines you and that makes you comfortable. Confidence is your best accessory, so if you’re not “feeling” your outfit, odds are it’ll show in your confidence.

Cinemagraph + Tiffany & Co.

Good Morning! Has every had their coffee this morning? Aside from needing my daily dose of caffeine (as a kid, I’d make my mom’s coffee and would taste it to make sure it was JUST right before handing it off to her. Therefore, I blame her for my slight addiction) I’m always browsing my favorite blog sites to spark a little inspiration and creativity. So, today I came across some pretty amazing photos that I wanted to share with you. From me to You is a popular photography blog I’ve been following -that I absolutely LOVE! The other day they featured these fantastic photos from Tiffany & Co. by Cinemagraph (Cinemagraph™ © 2011 Jamie Beck & Kevin Burg). When you have a chance, you’ve got to check out their website. I’m so obsessed with how the models are able to stay so still while they’re taking the photos. You almost have to sit and wait to see what is moving in the picture. So creative and daring. I hope you’ll find these images just as inspiring as I have!

 A little sidenote I’ve kept in the back of my mind for some time: We all know that ideas and art don’t just come out of a can you can buy at the supermarket. Many people ask me “How do you come up with these ideas and outfits?”.. and my response is always “inspiration.” Bare in mind that we (Noche, Marti, Waffles & myself) will always try to feature things we’re loving, wearing, inspired by and the like. We never receive any kind of money for the items we feature, and if we do, we’ll be completely transparent about the relationships we hold with our partners. We just want you to love the stuff that we love -and we’re committed to doing just that. And.. well, if you don’t like it? Then that’s okay! While its wildly impossible to cater to all the masses, we hope that just one of our styles and ideas cater to at least one of you. Just something I’ve been wanting to share, because I get these questions all the time. I’m mustering up the time to come up with a quick FAQ page for all the amazingly great emails we get! Put a Little Peplum In Your Step

So, the other day I thrifted this super fab little peplum top, that can be seen here (which I paired with a purple bodycon skirt from Forever21, Express belt, and Bamboo platforms from UrbanOg.com -anddd forgive my iPhone. The picture is quite blurry). I’ve been seeing this trend a lot and wanted to bring it front and center for my fashion-hungry readers! I’ve always been an avid supporter of LuLus.com and love all of the pieces they have to offer. They’re always up-to-date with current trends (& appropriately priced), so it didn’t surprise me when I found a plethora of items under the word “Peplum”.
